Today we say goodbye to our Year 6 children, most of whom have spent seven years at our school. Well over half of their lives – 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, 39 weeks of the year: at least 8190 hours in our care. They have grown from playful four year olds to confident, independent eleven year olds, ready for the challenges of the next stage in their lives.

Some will return, with lop-sided ties and fading memories of their primary school life. Some will call greetings across the street, as they meet us in unexpected places. Others will go out into the world, never to be seen again by those who have cared so much and given their all to make a positive difference in their young lives.

Today is the worst and best day of the year for our team – a well-earned rest and time to relax away from the pressures of work but also the end of the spell, cast over our children and broken as they begin their new adventures. We hope that wisps of the magic live on and that our children will go on to make the best of it; to live a life they are proud of and to prosper on whichever path they choose. We will miss you all – the quiet ones and the noisy ones; those who say they can and those who say they can’t; those who think first and those who jump first; each and every one of you, with your own unique quirks and qualities.

Steer your own ship, fire higher than you need, go out there and move the world.

Our Vision

Building confidence; inspiring achievement

At Burbage Primary School we want our pupils to grow up as confident, happy young people. We want our school to be a place where everyone feels safe, secure and supported. We want teaching to be effective and engaging, and learning to be enjoyable and fun. We want all our children, regardless of their background or ability, to reach their full potential and to be proud of their work and achievements. We want there to be clear communication between school and home, and for parents to feel fully involved. We value, and want to be valued by, our local community. We are dedicated to working together to achieve this vision for our school.
