Mr Tom Newton
Both of our year 6 classes enjoyed a trip to the Air Raid Shelters in Stockport as part of their World War 2 topic. They were asked to dress up as evacuees and experienced a day in the life of children during wartime.
Dear future Year 6 children,
We are writing to give you some information for next year, which will hopefully help you to get organised over the summer holidays for what will be a busy year!
We are mega-excited to have you all in Year 6 from September and think that you’ll be fantastic role models to the rest of our year groups.
There will be opportunities throughout the year for you to set excellent examples of how organised and responsible you are and what fantastic, pro-active learners you will be.
During our first week back in September, we will mostly be staying in our class groups rather than swapping for things such as maths groups. This is a great opportunity for us all to get to know one another better and for you and the staff to see how your new class works. There will be class lessons, games, maybe themed days and opportunities for display work. We will also look forward to hearing about your summer holidays.
Autumn term topic
During our first term, we will be learning about World Wars, alongside reading Michael Morpurgo’s fabulous War Horse. As part of this topic, we are planning a trip to Stockport Air-Raid shelters to take part in some interactive activities. Start thinking about your evacuee outfit for dressing up!
If you choose to bring a pencil case to school, please only bring one into school and remember that your workspace on the desk is limited. This year we have noticed that pencil cases have become larger and seem to be multiplying, which means that there is less working space on desks and more to carry around/leave in other classrooms!
As you know, school will provide handwriting pens, pencils and rulers for you to use, as well as felt tips, pencil crayons etc. However, should you wish to bring in your own stationery, please make sure that you use an ink pen rather than a biro, for writing. Eraser pens are not allowed to be used during lessons, so it would be best if you did not bring these into school.
If you want to bring in any fine liners/ gel pens etc. please feel free to do so but make sure that they fit into your one pencil case and do not need to be kept in their original packaging outside of your case.
UNIFORM AND PE KIT
Please bring in your PE kit on the first day back.
Make sure ALL uniform is named so as to avoid it ending up in…
the Bin of Doom!
