Dear future Year 5 children,

We are writing to give you some information for next year, which will hopefully help you to get organised over the summer holidays for what will be a busy year!

First week

During our first week back in September, most of our time will be spent in our class groups rather than swapping for things such as maths groups. This is a great opportunity for us all to get to know one another better and for you and the staff to see how your new class works. This will also give us the chance to hear about your summer holidays and complete some display work.

Autumn term topic

During our first term, we will be learning about World War 1 and 2. As part of this topic, we will be reading Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden. We are planning a trip and will give you more details in September.

In Year 5, everyone has the opportunity to become a buddy. We know that you’ll do a great job supporting the younger children in our school.

As one of our PE lessons, everyone in Year 5 will go swimming on Monday afternoon; this starts on Monday 18th of September.

If you choose to bring a pencil case to school, please only bring one into school and remember that your workspace on the desk is limited. This year we have noticed that pencil cases have become larger and seem to be multiplying, which means that there is less working space on desks and more to carry around/leave in other classrooms!
As you know, school will provide handwriting pens, pencils and rulers for you to use, as well as felt tips, pencil crayons etc. However, should you wish to bring in your own stationery, please make sure that you use an ink pen rather than a biro, for writing. Eraser pens are not allowed to be used during lessons, so it would be best if you did not bring these into school.
If you want to bring in any fine liners/ gel pens etc. please feel free to do so but make sure that they fit into your one pencil case and do not need to be kept in their original packaging outside of your case.

Please bring in your PE kit on the first day back.
Make sure ALL uniform is named so as to avoid it ending up in…
the Bin of Doom!

Information session for parents on Wednesday 13th September at 6pm.

We are very much looking forward to teaching you in September and know that you’ll be a fantastic year group to work with.
Have a fabulous summer!
